December 2011

The massive floods in Thailand currently have caused worldwide hard disk drive (HDD) shortages that may last till Q1 2012. The possibilities of running out stock and HDD prices rocket may severely delay the shipment of surveillance systems. Under the uncertainty of HDD supply, you can take advantages of huperVision intelligent surveillance system to further save HDD storage space by adjusting recording methods, video compression formats and compression ratios.

  • Recording Methods : Non-stop Recording, Event Recording, Non-stop Smart Recording and Time-lapse Recording
  • Video Compression Format: HM (MPEG4-like), H.264 and Motion JPEG
  • Video Compression Ratio: Fast, Compact, Good, Better and Best
Quick storage space saving tips:
huperVision H.264 Compact Quality + Non-stop Smart Recording Method is highly recommended to keep video file size small yet retain moderate video quality.

Note: huperVision H.264 Compact Quality may consume more CPU power to increase compression ratio.

Recording Methods

huperVision intelligent surveillance system offers 4 recording methods to select : Non-stop Recording, Event Recording, Non-stop Smart Recording and Time-lapse Recording.

  • Non-stop Recording allows round-the-clock digital recording.
  • Event Recording records only detected events. The Pre-event recording feature enables video recording prior to the start of events.
  • Non-stop Smart Recording records live events in full recording speed. If no event is detected, the recording frame rate and compression format can be lowered down to save the HDD space.
  • Time-lapse Recording records video with specified frame rate below 1 fps.

Video Compression

huperVision intelligent surveillance system provides 3 video compression formats as H.264, HM (MPEG4-like format) and Motion JPEG. Each further supports several levels of compression rate such as Fast, Compact, Good quality, Better quality and Best quality for better storage utilization.

H.264 Video Compression

  • Fast Quality: default value. It offers moderate file size with the least video quality
  • Compact Quality: the smallest data size and moderate video quality with more CPU consumption
  • Good Quality: good video quality / recording speed with smaller file size
  • Better Quality
  • Best Quality: the highest video quality with largest file size

Note:
This one to five (1-5) scale indicates different levels of video quality, CPU consumption and video data size. Higher scores indicate higher video quality, more CPU consumption, and larger data size.

HM (MPEG-4 Like) Video Compression

  • Fast Quality: default value
  • Good Quality: moderate video quality with the smallest file size
  • Best Quality: the highest video quality with largest file size

Note:
This one to five (1-5) scale indicates different levels of video quality, CPU consumption and video data size. Higher scores indicate higher video quality, more CPU consumption, and larger data size.
